How to Save Money on Your Family’s Clothes with ThredUp
As a busy mom with ever-changing needs when it comes to a wardrobe (more comfortable clothing, clothing to fit my expanding belly, etc) and trying to stick to a budget, it can be tough!! Add in little boys that seem to grow out of clothing within a month, and our budget can quickly be blown just on clothing.
Last week I shared a few ideas on finding clothing on a budget (of time and money) and an honest review of Stitch Fix. This week I want to introduce you to my very favorite place to buy clothing: ThredUp.
ThredUp is a kind of online consignment store that sells very gently used name brand clothing. Until finding ThredUp, my favorite way to affordably shop for clothing has been thrift stores. But now, ThredUp has replaced that love because I can sit on my couch when my kids are in bed and clothing shop! <— That makes this busy mama so happy.
I’ll share more about this at the end, but you can actually get $10 OFF for your first order by signing up through this link —> http://www.thredup.com/r/C5ZONX
How It Works
When you first start using ThredUp, it can be a bit overwhelming. They add new clothing every hour, and of course, being a consignment store, they only carry one of each item! There are literally thousands of items to search through.
I suggest you download their iPhone or andriod app as it makes it really easy to use (plus every week they offer special sales for their mobile users. Second, I suggest that if you find anything you are remotely interested in, add it to your cart! This way it’s safe (no one else can buy it) and you can easily find it again later. You can only save your cart for I think 12 or 24 hours (I can’t remember which), after that, the items are put back up for sale. Items can sell out quickly, so when in doubt, add it to your cart!
Then when you are all done, check out, and items seem to ship super quick! I usually get my orders within a couple of days. You also get free shipping on orders over $70 (but their regular shipping isn’t too bad anyway).
The Verdict
ThredUp is hands down my favorite place to buy clothing. They have women’s, junior’s, maternity, kid’s, and now infant clothing! I’m just waiting for them to add men’s clothing.
Her are some things I’ve ordered and the pricing:
One thing I’ve always been really impressed with is the quality of their used clothing. They are really picky about the condition and brands they take. I have never been disappointed with the quality. For the most part, you can’t tell the clothes are used. Plus, it enables me to buy nicer quality clothing for myself and my kids for far cheaper than I could afford in stores.
Selling Your Clothing
With ThredUp, you also have the opportunity to sell your gently used clothing back to them for credit. All you have to do is order a clean out bag, they mail it to you for free, you fill it up, and send it back for free!
Whatever they don’t want to buy, they will donate to a charity. What they do decide to keep, is credited to your account. I ordered a clean up bag a few months ago, filled it up, and it’s been sitting in the trunk of my car. Whoops! I’ll update about my experience once I actually send my bag back.
I know I sound like a commercial for ThredUp but that’s just because I am so happy to finally find an easy, affordable way to shop for clothing for nearly my entire family (I’m still holding out for the men’s clothing). My only problem with ThredUp is that it’s a little too addicting – I have to be careful that I’m actually spending money on things we need and not just having fun haha.
Get $10 Off Your First Order
I finally got the courage up to try out ThredUp when a friend shared her referral link with me and told me that I could get $10 off my first order (there is not minimum order either, you could literally just order a $10 item and get it for free). And I’ve been hooked ever since.
