Our Twin Boys Are Here!! (July 6, 2015 Happy Birthday)

on July 20, 2015 by Jami Balmet 0 comments

Writing this post for me is major deja vue as two and a half years ago I wrote a very similar post when we had our first set of twin boys: Malachi and Micah!

And now I am so excited to announce that our second set of twin boys, Remington and Ryder, finally made their way into the world on July 6, 2015! We are now a family of six and are settling into life with four kids, two and a half years and younger. It’s wild and wonderful, chaotic and amazing, all at the same time.

Remingtong and Ryder

We had a last minute c section with my first boys and have been hoping and praying this whole pregnancy to be able to do a VBAC and have these boys naturally. I’ll write out their birth story in full soon, but here’s the quick story.

On June 11, I woke up my husband up in the middle of the night with consistent contractions getting closer together. We headed to the hospital and labored for nearly 18 hours, dilated to 4 cm, and then we were discharged because labor stalled and then stopped completely.

So we headed home that night, with my doctor telling us that he expected we would be back in the hospital that weekend. Then nearly a month passed with no more contractions. Nothing.

Inducing was out of the question because of my previous c section and so we scheduled a c section for July 6 if I didn’t go into labor naturally before then. In the weeks leading up to July 6, we literally tried everything to induce labor naturally. Nothing worked, nothing helped, and my doctor would laugh each time I hobbled into my appointments. Still pregnant.

And so, with a considerable amount of anxiety (I’ll share more about that later), we woke up bright and early on Monday the 6th to head in to have our boys.

38 weeks and ready to meet our boys
The last picture of me pregnant – 38 weeks and we had arrived bright and early at the hospital for our scheduled c section! I can’t believe I made it this far!!

The C section went very smoothly, although I lost a considerable amount of blood (even for a twin pregnancy) and nearly needed a blood transfusion, we met our amazing boys Remington and Ryder at 11:12 and 11:13am on July 6th.

During the c section

In the end, the c section is exactly what we needed due to the twins positioning and their weight. God always knows what is needed, even when we are stubborn and want other things.

Remington was born first at 6lbs 12oz and Ryder was born at 7lbs 4oz. No wonder I was in so much pain and couldn’t walk for the last month. But praise the Lord for big, healthy, growing boys!

We spent two and a half days in the hospital and then we were all released, healthy and ready to go home. And now here we are two weeks later and are all doing well. I’m still recovering quite a bit from my c section and I’m itching to feel normal and be able to move around again.

But my boys have been great nursers and sleepers from the very beginning! A wonderful blessing since I also have two toddlers to care for and love on as well.

I snapped this photo of my husband bringing home our new twins for the first time and again had major deja vu from two years ago. Here’s my husband 2 weeks ago and 2 years ago bringing home our first set of twin boys:

Coming home from the hospital

Now we’ve been busy at home, getting used to life with four kids, and introducing Malachi and Micah to their new baby brothers. I think they are still a little unsure of what to think.

All four of my boys
It’s hard to wrangle my older two boys for a picture but here are all four of my boys together <3

I can’t wait to share more about life with TWO sets of twins and how my homemaking will look different in this new season! Until then, you can follow me on Instagram to keep up on what our family is up to right now!

And thank you so much for all the prayers from so many of you! It means so much to me that you would take some time out of your day to prayer for my family <3
