Move Over Bumbo, I Have a New Favorite (Life with Two Sets of Twins)

on September 7, 2015 by Jami Balmet 0 comments

Life with two sets of twins is…interesting. It’s wild and crazy and absolutely wonderful. But it’s also busy and sometimes hard to know what to do (or where to set) the baby twins so they won’t get crushed by their crazy two and a half year old brothers. Today I want to share with you an amazing solution I found (and how it’s not just for twins)!

My secret weapon for surviving life with twins

When I was pregnant with M&M (our first set of twins), I kept hearing about how amazing these things called Bumbo seats were. My friends who already had kids raved about them. So I plopped down the money (actually, the gift cards) for two bumbos and two trays….which we never ended up using. Why? By the time my chubby little babies got old enough to use them, they were too chubby to fit their legs into.

M&M 10 weeks
My other problem – this is M&M at 10 weeks and though the picture looks like it, they were not able to hold their heads up well enough yet for the bumbos. They sure were cute though!!

Apparently a few years ago they changed the Bumbo seats to have much smaller leg holes and they just don’t work as well as the older version that my friends have. Long story short, we sat in the Bumbo’s once or twice and never used them again. A total waste of money for us at the time.

Fast forward to when we were preparing to welcome R&R into our family (our second set of twins), I began trying to imagine what our daily life would like. What would our daily schedule look like? What about meal times? etc.

With M&M, I could simply leave them to have some tummy time on a mat in the living room while I cooked dinner. Well, with extremely active two year old big brothers, that’s not exactly an option this time around.

I’m sure other moms with older kids can relate: things with newborns get a little more complicated after the first kid. Whether or not you have one kid at a time (or two)!

Table for two

Enter: The Table for Two (or the Solo Diner for all my singleton friends)

Somewhere along month six, I came across this neat little feeding table. And from then on, every time I began thinking of what our new routine as a family of 6 would look like, I would picture using this table! I thought it was just the thing we needed to help with our routine (especially when I’m home alone with 4 kid – 2.5 years old and younger)!

And boy was I right! Move over Bumbo – there’s a new seat in town! The Table for Two was designed as a feeding solution for twins but I have found it to be so helpful in tons of ways. Yes, it’s super easy and convenient to feed both babies at once, but it’s become multi-functional in our house. (And the Solo Diner would be just as helpful for a single baby!) Here’s a few ways we use our table:

1) Family Dinners

The Table for Two is a great way to involve the babies in family dinner time. They can sit up and see us while we all sit around the table.

2) While I work on my computer

Our office is in a very separate part of the house and if the babies are in the living room or their room, I can’t hear them. So I love to set the table for two on my desk and work alongside my babies while they nap or coo around.

3) Cleaning and Organizing

I’ve been on a decluttering kick lately and so I’ve been taking the Table for Two from room to room as I dig into a new cleaning project. Then they can sit up, watch mama work, and are safe from trampling feet of toddlers.

4) Protection from rowdy older brothers

Like I said before, the Table for Two gives me a portable and super safe spot to set the boys in any room of the house that is relatively safe from rowdy older brothers.

5) The best place to take a nap

My boys are big spitter-uppers and the table for two creates a safe and comfy place to nap. If they can stay elevated while eating and afterword, it helps cut down on the spitting up!
