Getting prepared for the Global 6K for Water! (Helping kids around the globe)
I was compensated by World Vision for my time in writing this post. All opinions are my own.
Nearly 1,000 children under age 5 die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation and improper hygiene. In Ethiopia alone, about 40 million people lack a clean water source and an estimated 70 million live without adequate sanitation.
And in May, World Vision is working on doing something about that. Last month I shared that I will be participating in the global 6k for water.
It’s heartbreaking to read about how difficult it is for mothers and children around the world to get access to clean water when it’s so easy for us to access it. I love World Vision’s heart behind trying to make safe water a reality for these countries.
I can’t imagine the impact on families around the world to suddenly have safe and convienent access to clean water. It could literally change lives. Here’s what World Vision says,
“World Vision believes the global water and sanitation crisis can be solved within our lifetime. World Vision provides a new person with clean water every 30 seconds as part of our full solution to end poverty. In 2015, World Vision provided access to clean water to 2.3 million people, and the organization’s goal is to provide clean water and sanitation to one new person every 10 seconds by 2020.”
One new person each 30 seconds get’s access to clean water and we can be part of that solution which is so exciting! You can learn all about World Vision’s water programs here.
If you want to help join the fight to bring safe drinking water to children around the world and help reduce child deaths by up to 57% then a great way to get involved is with the global 6k for water.
Join the Run!
You can get a day out with your family, enjoy the sunshine, and help raise money for World Vision’s clean water program – something I’m very excited about.
By getting involved in the 6k run, we can help bring that healthy and safe drinking water much closer for these families! Here’s how you can get involved on May 6th:
- Host a run: Work together with your church, school, community center or run club to register as a host site (it’s free!) and spread the word about how fun and easy it is to support clean water programs around the world! Whether your goal is 10 people or 100 people, World Vision will equip you with all the marketing materials, race day signage and staff support for a successful race day. Find out more here.
- Join a local run: Walk or run with other Global 6K for Water participants at a host site near you. You can find the local host sites near you here.
- Start a virtual team: Invite your friends and family all around the country to join your “team” even though you will each be walking or running from your own neighborhoods on race day. (This would be such a fun way to use your network of friends and family on Facebook to get involved!)
- Individual race: Walk or run the Global 6K for Water from your own front door – whether on a treadmill or around the neighborhood with your kids, you’ll be taking part in a global effort to support clean water! (Note: Thanks to their generous donors, the registration fee for kids (15 and under) is only $25 – a discount of 50%!)
