Refresh Your Routines – Getting on Track with Your Daily Disciplines
A few years ago, I made my first daily disciplines sheet. It was a simple one page sheet to help me keep track of all those daily tasks such as Bible reading, prayer, meal planning, cleaning and more. I’ve used it on and off for several years.
And what I’ve found throughout the years is that the more consistent with my routines, the easier my homemaking is. Well DUH! you might be thinking. But stick with me.
I’ve been in survival mode a lot in the past 5 years. In 4 short years, we went from just Jason and I – to FIVE kids including 2 sets of twin boys and a baby girl. I was ready and excited to have my first baby, I just had no idea they would grow in twos!
I am so incredibly thankful for my family, but it has left a LOT of room for me to grow in my homemaking skills trying to learn how to juggle it all (I already wasn’t all that good at keeping up on everything).
But the funny thing? In the crazy times when life is nuts, this is when I MOST need good routines and habits in my life. But it’s during those times that my routines and habits go out the window and we really end up living in chaos.
People often ask me what my “secret” is to juggling 5 kids 4 and under and running a home based business with my husband. Other than lots and LOTS of caffeine, I would say my “secret” is solid routines and habits built into my day.
I’ve learned the VERY hard way what happens when I don’t have these firm routines established in my day. And so over the years, my simple one sheet daily disciplines has turned into a lifestyle of healthy habits and routines.
But I still have weeks (and seasons) when I get rusty or out of the habit. It’s during those times that I most need to remind myself of the grace that routines offer.
