Premature Labor
Carrying twins always carries the risk of premature labor. We knew it was a risk and at 30 weeks when I started having contractions 5 minutes apart we headed to the hospital. They tracked the babies {who were both doing great}, gave me a shot to stop contractions, and then monitored me for a few hours. I wasn’t dilating and my contractions were slowing down. I was able to go home and felt great.
The next day I had my baby shower and felt fine in the morning. I was taking it easy but by the afternoon, contractions started again 3-5 minutes apart. We headed back to the hospital, they monitored me and the babies, gave me a shot, I was dilating, my contractions stopped and they sent me home to wait out the weekend until I could see my normal doctor.
The next week was uneventful. I had contractions on and off but I took it easy and mostly sat on the couch. The next Saturday (at 31 weeks) I went into labor AGAIN. We had the same run down. Contractions stopped and the doctor told me that sometimes with twins you could go into labor like this every week until the end. So I went home.
The next day I went into labor for the 4th time. That’s right! The 4th time at 31 weeks. I was so tired by this point but we headed back to the hospital. This time they monitored me over night, hooked me up to an IV, and we waited it out. By this point I started dilating. They sent me home with slowed contractions, 1 cm dilated, and orders for strict bed rest. I could only get up to go to the bathroom.
And this is how I have spent my last 5 weeks. On bedrest…getting restless..but keeping those babies safe and baking! And now, by the Grace of God we have made it to 36 weeks!! So here are some pictures to update you on my progress since 22 weeks.
24 Weeks
26 Weeks – I felt their hiccups for the first time this week! They weighed about 1lbs 5oz each at this point.
Hubby and I at 27 weeks. Both babies are over 2lbs now.
I then went into labor 4 times and was on bed rest so my next picture wasn’t until 32 weeks 🙂
34 weeks! This was a big milestone, we wanted to make it to at least 34 weeks!! The boys were approaching 5lbs each at this point.
34 weeks on my Husband’s 25th Birthday!!! Happy Birthday my sweet 🙂 We kept thinking the babies would come on his birthday 😉
AND here we are at 36 weeks. PRAISE THE LORD we made it this far. The babies are estimated at 5lbs 12oz and 5lbs 10oz right now! They are at a great weight and we are ready to have them now at any time. Lord willing they should come straight home with us even if they were born today. 🙂
Stay tuned for a 37 week announcement OR our babies announcement. They are coming any day now and I will make sure to update you all as I have time…or hubby will be updating you 😉
