Easter egg hunts, pastel dresses, decorating eggs, the Easter bunny, lilies, oh and going to church.

This is what Easter was for me for many years. Yes, of course, Easter was about Christ. Duh, it’s HIS holiday. He died and rose again. But I didn’t truly understand what it was all about.

It wasn’t until more recently that I REALLY started to understand Easter. I did of course recognize that it is all about Christ and his death. I really did see that HE was the reason for the holiday and not the Easter bunny.

But I didn’t realize that it’s a celebration. My eyes have been opened to this new meaning of Easter. It’s not a somber realization of his death, it’s a celebration of His resurrection and the promise of New Life.

Before the foundations of the world, God had a plan in mind. Christ came to this earth to die. But we will get to more of that later.

And while we SHOULD celebrate this Easter and sing joyfully to the Lord and thank Him for His gift, we should also realize that we should be doing this everyday. Christ didn’t just die for us one day out of the year. We should be celebrating his Resurrection and the promise of our own Resurrection, each day.

Each day we should celebrate Resurrection day. Everyday we should live as if it’s Easter. But you can’t celebrate that which you don’t know to celebrate.

The Reason for Our Celebration

Christ came to this Earth to die for our sins to that one day we could be raised to new life in Him. The gravity of this statement is not truly understood until faced with God’s word. In His scripture, God starts the story of Christ in the Old Testament and winds a beautiful story throughout the pages of Scripture. 

Our redeemer died to save us. This is what Easter is all about and it’s a time to celebrate what He has done for us and His promise for the future. Over the next week and a half, leading up to Easter I will take a journey through the Old Testament and then through the New to better understand what Easter is all about. 

Throughout this journey I will look at the beautiful promises of the coming Messiah in the Old Testament and the culmination of that promise in the New Testament. Then finally we will look at His death and Resurrection and the future promise of our own Resurrection into eternal new life with Him. 

At the end of this I hope that we are all joyfully celebrating this Easter. Will you set some time aside and walk this journey with me?
